Yvette Shorten returned to Huntsville in 1998 after living thirty-two years in Houston, Texas. With a desire to learn more about the Huntsville community, she attended the Huntsville Leadership Institute Class #21, the Huntsville Police Academy Class-06A, and served on various community committees. Relocating with her was her husband of forty years, Jerry, and their two children Noel and Jermaine. Yvette and her family joined St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she is a member of the Stewardship Ministry. She has served on the Finance Ministry, College Ministry, Bridge Ministry, as Staff Parish Relations Committee chair, and taught Sunday School. Yvette was the Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director of Huntsville Independent School District for eight years. In 2007, she joined LEMIT on the campus of SHSU as the Assistant Coordinator for the Texas Police Chief's Leadership Series. Currently, she is the Assistant Program Coordinator of Professional Development Programs. Yvette is also an advocate for the Immune Deficiency Foundation and president of the NMS and J2 Memorial Scholarship Fund. Believing in God's promises and word, Yvette strives to live that others will see His light through her. She is thankful for her family and friends.

The Huntsville Celebration Chapter meets on the 4th Mondays of each month, except for December, June and July. We meet at 6:00 p.m. in the church social hall and share supper, music, prayers, program, and Christian Fellowship.

The First United Methodist Church Huntsville Celebration Chapter celebrated their 13th Birthday in January 2013! The Chapter was chartered as an official Celebration Women's Ministry Chapter of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church on January 29, 2000. This ministry was asked to "bring the love and grace of Christ to the women that you encounter." The Huntsville Chapter has had a successful thirteen years of providing excellent programs, speakers, special music, praise and worship, and bible studies that are made available to all the women in the community and surrounding areas. This is a "woman to woman ministry of sharing, encouraging, discipling, and mentoring in the faith." Come join us this year! We meet in the FUMC Social Hall on the 4th Monday night!
