Caregivers Care

Led by Chaplain Wayne I. Norman

“My command is this:  Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this that one lay down his life for his friends.”   -   John 15:12-13
For years, Elisha devoted time and energy to Elijah the prophet during the 9th century BCE, in the Jordan Valley, south of the Sea of Galilee, in the kingdom of Israel. Before becoming the successor of the prophet Elijah, the Tishbite (1 Kings 19:15-21), Elisha worked as Elijah's servant for some years, and Elisha dreaded the end of his master's life. In his lifetime, Elisha raised the dead without speaking a word.  However, Prophet Elisha, one of the most anointed among God's Prophets, died sick.   After his death, his dry bones raised back to life a dead man. Yet with all his anointing, he died sick.

We will discuss Caregiving for Alzheimer’s patients, understanding things to do that will make it easier for the patient and Caregiver in day-to-day care.  Colors they see, talking face to face not from the side, redirecting so as to assist without saying the word “NO” which gives them the “deer in headlight look”

We will include Caregivers for Cancer patients, COPD, Dialysis patients, Liver failure patients, and other medical challenge specific things to do for each individual modality.  Loving the patient where the patient is TODAY.

Giving a safe place to discuss Caregivers’ feelings and struggles of living through the loss of the person the Caregiver once knew.  Allowing the Caregiver a place to learn and grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally as Elisha did while caring for Elijah.
